April Showers Bring…

Many MORE May showers! Seriously, it’s been raining/drizzly for the past 5 days or so! Whatev – it’s sunny outside this morning 🙂 AND…….

(Wait for it….)

My mom finally made her flight!!!!

I’m pretty darn excited 😀

Ok, let’s get to it, shall we?

Before leaving our French middle-of-nowhere cabin in the woods, Connor and I enjoyed a rural booze walk (yes, that’d be French cabernet wine in an Evian water bottle)

and made a delicious final meal of cheeseburgers and all of our veggie leftovers.

Who says you can't find a good burger in France?

The next morning, we got on the road and headed to wine country. We couldn’t check into our latest airbnb spot (another shot out to that website, by the way! It’s working wonderfully for booking as we go on this trip! I, once again, highly recommend using it for any travel accommodations!), so we killed some time wandering around the nearby city of Beaune.

and then rounded out our evening with a fancy French 3 course meal in Beaune. It was lovely 🙂 However, I was too busy trying to look like I belonged there, so I didn’t opted against photographing my food, sorry :/

Some pictures of the next day’s touring around:

Our first chain restaurant experience while abroad at La Pataterie. I guess it's a bit like an Applebee's? The food was actually really good!

I got a monstrous salad with toast topped w/ salami (which I removed) & a tomato tuna spread and Connor got a huge baked potato topped w/ a salmon quiche-like spread & side salad.

After about 6 hours of driving, we arrived at the Yellow House in the Black Forest near Oppenau Germany.

It’s located in a really cool area up in the mountains surrounded by the Black Forest and waterfalls and medieval ruins!

IMG_0899 IMG_0902 IMG_0904 IMG_0909After a little hike yesterday afternoon, we drove into town for some lunch where we found a friendly little German lady to serve us beer and grub while she prattled along happily in German unfazed by our utter ignorance 😛

As is usually the case for me in Germany, I had no idea what I was odering. Turned out to be a dumpling-type dough caserole covered with LOTS of cheese and some onions. Definitely a heart attack on a plate, but still pretty tasty :D

With full bellies and a little buzz (the little old German lady twisted my arm into a 1/2 liter of hefeweizen – I didn’t wanna insult her, so I obliged…) we marched along to the grocery store and stocked up on snacks (cherry tomatoes, carrot bread *not to be confused w/ carrot cake*, yogurts) and BEER. Then we took another hike up in the mountains/forests of Oppenau before heading back to our Yellow House home 😀

As for today, I plan to take advantage of the sunny morning and hike to the waterfalls again and then get cleaned up to pick up my mama!
